Atlantis' programs are designed to provide both a meaningful educational hospital experience and a great cultural experience. With beautiful locations across Europe and Latin America, the Atlantis Fellowship offers a comprehensive and impactful international hospital experience.
Pursuing a career in healthcare requires investing significant effort, time, and finances, beginning at the undergraduate level. Witnessing the practice of medicine first-hand can help cement the decision to pursue a career in healthcare and give the enthusiasm needed to complete the long road ahead, or it can save you valuable time, stress, and money if you realize early on that healthcare is not right for you. Even students who are positive about working in healthcare benefit from gaining more insight into the life of healthcare professionals and operations of a hospital, helping you to narrow your interests, making you a stronger candidate to medical and health professional schools, and preparing you for the trials (and joys) ahead. In today's competitive application environment, extra experience shadowing, more clearly defined goals, and more awareness about the healthcare field can make a significant difference in admissions.
Atlantis offers an intensive shadowing program of approximately 20hrs/week in international hospitals where students see different areas of medicine while also observing a healthcare system that is different than the US system. Outside of the hospital, students broaden horizons by exploring their host country and partaking in group activities. The hospital experience is observation-only, and Atlantis is committed to ensuring that all participants are held to high ethical standards while shadowing (read more about ethics here).

Who is CFHI?
Child Family Health International (CFHI) provides community-based Global Health Education Programs for health science students and institutions. Our unique model fosters reciprocal partnerships and empowerment in local communities, transforming perspectives about self, healing and global citizenship.
CFHI is an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the ECOSOC of the United Nations.
What are CFHI Programs?
Through CFHI participants go on 4 to 16 week placements with physicians in developing countries working in underserved communities. Participants rotate through local clinics and hospitals, attend medical lectures, and become immersed in the healthcare system of the community. CFHI has 20+ sites throughout Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, South Africa, and Uganda which offer clinical and public health opportunities to students of all levels interested in health and medicine.
CFHI's approach is unique. CFHI provides individual trainees and university partners with opportunities to learn about global health while imbedded in existing health systems and social services sectors alongside local community members and champions. The context is so important in order to impart a broad-based understanding of the interplays between disease processes, social circumstances, poverty, resiliency, geopolitical realities, historical contexts, culture, and the complexities of health and wellness. CFHI utilizes an asset-based engagement model, empowering local communities to own the educational narrative in order to transform the minds and hearts of young people so they are positioned to be the partners (both internationally and locally) that are necessary to achieve health equity and social justice. CFHI's expertise is in preserving the authenticity of the community's expertise and presenting 'real-life' global health, while nesting programs in gold-standard educational pedagogies and safety standards. We hope you will learn more about CFHI through our website, as well as sign up to recieve our newsletters, educational programming, and become part of our thought community.
