Elective Africa’s well-structured electives and pre-health clinical shadowing rotations are tailor-made to speak to your desire to undertake your overseas internships, medical volunteer or medical elective abroad.
The healthcare electives are open to students and professionals in medicine, nursing, midwifery, dental, physician assistant and those in public health training. The overseas elective to Africa allows one to experience a health system different from what they are accustomed to. You will be placed in a hospital of choice in a rural, urban/coastal setting across various destinations. You will interact with phased out infections such as Malaria and learns on how they are diagnosed and treated. You will also understand how the medical professionals deliver the much needed health services with limited resources. Unique to these placements is the mentorship and supervision at the hospital. You will have a doctor who acts as a go to person while at the hospital.
The clinical shadowing internships for the pre-health students allow for hands off medical experience in hospital set up in our partner hospitals. You can choose on a variety of departments to shadow in which include obstetrics & gynaecology, Accidents & emergency, paediatrics & child health, internal medicine among other. You will be attached to a healthcare professional with vast knowledge on the healthcare system to shadow in their daily routine and learn through observation for a minimum of 25 hours a week.
